Played tennis a couple of times since my last post. Lot's of fun hitting the little yellow fuzzy with my wife. She runs circles around me. Culture's beginning: Rice planting song of the far north.
(Narrow Road to the Far North by Matsuo Basho) Now my wife happens to be from the "far" north (Japan), and rice is grown in the vicinity ... but this is more of a my mind rambling through a "stream of consciousness" type thing here. Probably spurred on by ...
My reading a book called On the Narrow Road by Leslie Downer. It's a travelogue from a number of years ago chronicling a woman's journey along the road northward (from Tokyo) that Matsuo Basho wrote about ~500 years previous. I've read Matsuo Basho's work several times, enjoy the poetry immensely, and have even visited some of the sights mentioned. So reading On the Narrow Road has been interesting for me. Back to topics at hand ... weight loss contest at work ... determined to win! A friend has suggested a 10k race this spring for me to shoot for. Another friend wants to train with me at the gym. Another couple of friends half my age want me to take them climbing. = lots of goals with plenty of motivation ... let's see where this leads me.
